REPORTING TO PARENTS

Report cards are issued six times a year, at the end of each six-week period.  The parent will keep the original report card for future reference.  A card is to be signed and returned to the teacher indicating that the report card was received by the parent.

A sampling of the student’s work will be sent home each week.  Parents are asked to review the papers and sign the card checklist.  The signed checklist should be returned to the teacher the following day in the folder.  A behavior report will be included with the weekly folders if improvement is needed.

HALLS

Students should be in the halls only at the beginning and close of school and while moving from one class to another unless they have special permission or special duties that require them to be there.  Students in the halls during class time must have passes.  Students are asked to be courteous at all times and to keep to the right when moving in the halls.  Running and shouting in the halls is never permitted.

CHEATING

Whenever a student is guilty of cheating, the teacher shall collect the student’s paper, mark a zero for the work, and notify the parent and office immediately as to the action taken.  The parent shall be notified that a second offense will bring automatic suspension from school.

HOMEWORK POLICY

We believe that homework is a means of bringing teacher, pupil, and parent together.  Students are to complete all written and oral homework assignments as required by the teacher.  Homework should have purpose and meaning to the pupil as well as to the teacher and parent.  The emphasis should be on quality rather than quantity.  Time spent on homework should increase with age.

EARLY CHECK-OUT

In the event that it becomes necessary for a child to checkout of school during the regular school day, the accompanying adult will go to the office to sign the student out of school.  Parents must notify the school office prior to 2:00 p.m. if the child’s mode of transportation home will change.

  GRADES

Letter grades (A,B,C,D,F) are reported for all content areas for students in grades 4-6.  S and U are given in P.E. and Handwriting.

Grades reflect a student’s mastery of materials and activities as judged by teacher observation, daily assignments and tests.  Good work habits are essential to good grades.  Independent study in school and at home is necessary.  Students must assume responsibility for completion of all assignments.

Parents can help by providing a quiet place for children to study and read at home.  Encourage your child to do well in school.  Look for the good things that he/she can do and praise your child for his/her accomplishments.  Keep in contact with your child’s teacher.  Frequent parent-teacher contacts by telephone and/or conference will prove beneficial to your child’s success in school and the student-teacher-parent relationship.
