DISCIPLINE
POLICY Teaching
is our primary goal at Goodpine Middle, but it is impossible to teach without
discipline. Teachers have the right
to teach and students have the right to learn. 1.
Possessing weapons or using
any tool or instrument to do bodily harm. To help students comply with the LaSalle Parish Discipline Policy, we ask Good Pine Middle School students to observe the following rules: 1.
Leave all toys and games at home 2.
Walk quietly on the right side of the halls 3.
Remain in assigned areas on outside days during recess breaks.
Students are not to re-enter the classrooms or halls without permission
of a duty teacher 4.
Keep hands, feet and all objects to self 5.
No name calling, cursing, tattling or teasing 6.
No gossiping or note writing 7.
No gum, hats or caps on campus REPORTING TO PARENTSReport
cards are issued six times a year, at the end of each six-week period.
The parent will keep the original report card for future reference.
A card is to be signed and returned to the teacher indicating that the
report card was received by the parent. A sampling of the student’s work will be sent home each week. Parents are asked to review the papers and sign the card checklist. The signed checklist should be returned to the teacher the following day in the folder. A behavior report will be included with the weekly folders if improvement is needed. HALLSStudents should be in the halls only at the beginning and close of school and while moving from one class to another unless they have special permission or special duties that require them to be there. Students in the halls during class time must have passes. Students are asked to be courteous at all times and to keep to the right when moving in the halls. Running and shouting in the halls is never permitted. CHEATING Whenever a student is guilty of cheating, the teacher shall collect the student’s paper, mark a zero for the work, and notify the parent and office immediately as to the action taken. The parent shall be notified that a second offense will bring automatic suspension from school. HOMEWORK POLICY
We believe that
homework is a means of bringing teacher, pupil, and parent together.
Students are to complete all written and oral homework assignments as
required by the teacher. Homework
should have purpose and meaning to the pupil as well as to the teacher and
parent. The emphasis should be on
quality rather than quantity. Time
spent on homework should increase with age. EARLY CHECK-OUTIn the event that it becomes necessary for a child to checkout of school during the regular school day, the accompanying adult will go to the office to sign the student out of school. Parents must notify the school office prior to 2:00 p.m. if the child’s mode of transportation home will change.
GRADES Letter grades (A,B,C,D,F) are reported for all content areas for students in grades 4-6. S and U are given in P.E. and Handwriting. Grades reflect a student’s
mastery of materials and activities as judged by teacher observation, daily
assignments and tests. Good work
habits are essential to good grades. Independent
study in school and at home is necessary. Students
must assume responsibility for completion of all assignments. Parents can help by providing a quiet place for children to study and read at home. Encourage your child to do well in school. Look for the good things that he/she can do and praise your child for his/her accomplishments. Keep in contact with your child’s teacher. Frequent parent-teacher contacts by telephone and/or conference will prove beneficial to your child’s success in school and the student-teacher-parent relationship.

FOR
YOUR CHILD’S SAFETY The instructional day begins
at 7:50 and ends at 3:15. For
safety reasons we strongly encourage that parents not bring their children to
school prior to 7:20a.m. There is no
supervision of students prior to 7:20a.m. We
need to maintain an open driveway for the safety of all students until all
LaSalle Parish buses have safely loaded and unloaded all riders and cleared the
drive. Please do not park between
the loading and unloading signs in front of the school.
According
to LaSalle Parish School Board policy, persons other than parents or legal
guardians who pick up students from school must have parental authorization and
provide proper identification.
Due
to safety concerns, NO bus transfers or car pickup requests will be taken
over the telephone. A note with the
child’s guardian’s signature must be sent to school in the morning or
dropped by the school office during the school day for a
change of transportation. TARDIESStudents arriving at school after 7:55 are considered tardy. If a student is tardy, he/she is to report to the office BEFORE going to the classroom. Consistent tardies will result in parent contact by principal. RULES FOR BUS RIDERS Seating arrangements are to be determined by the school bus driver. Problems concerning the bus should be discussed with your child’s bus driver. Parents must notify the school office prior to 2:00 p.m. if the child’s mode of transportation home will change. TELEPHONE
Students will not use the office phone for personal calls except in emergency and with permission. In the event of an emergency and a student receives a call, a message will be taken and given to the student. STUDENT DRESS CODE POLICY:The dress and grooming of LaSalle Parish students shall be neat and clean, promoting a positive, safe educational environment. Apparel that disrupts educational activities and processes of the school, including extra-curricula activities, will result in the removal of the student from the regular school environment until acceptable apparel can be secured for the student. The administration will be the final judge of whether a student's clothing is appropriate for school. Principals, faculty, and staff members will enforce the dress code. General Guidelines:
LOST
BOOKS Textbooks are furnished at no cost to the students. However, once the textbooks are issued, the students are responsible for lost or destroyed books at their full value. This also applies to library books. VISITORS
All visitors must report to the main office. PROBLEMS
Regardless of how hard
someone tries to avoid problems, they still exist.
If you have a problem with any portion of Good Pine Middle School, please,
come to the school and we will discuss the problem and do our best to resolve
the problem before it becomes a major obstacle in the learning process of our
children. If the problem can be corrected in the classroom with teacher assistance, be sure to discuss the problem with the teacher first. If the problem is not corrected to your satisfaction, come by the office or contact the principal.
